José L. Diaz-Gomez is the Director for Cardiothoracic, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Transplant Critical Care at The Texas Heart Institute – Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Diaz-Gomez completed his medical education at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia, and a post-graduate anesthesiology residency at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed a critical care fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and further training in cardiac anesthesia at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Diaz-Gomez is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, with added qualifications in critical care, neurocritical care (United Council of Neurological Specialties – UCNS), and the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) – Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and Critical Care Echocardiography.

He holds the Fellowship in the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and the Fellowship in the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). He represents the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) with the National Board of Echocardiography and the American Society of Echocardiography.

Dr. Diaz-Gomez is the Anesthesia designated seat within the SCCM Council.
